ken davis | I got a 'good deal' on an old skid loader. the previous owner thought it was a '87 case-ih 1840. Its not. I talked to him at length for more clues, but all he has record of is a model number 1-184-L which doesn not seem to match anything I can find from Case (but oddly is the number of cc's displacement the engine has) and a serial number 79904 which seems to be of little use. The friendly people at texana case agree it's unlikely to be a Case machine. I've looked over almost every inch of the machine and there is no physical identification/serial number tag. Here's what I do know: - Has a Isuzu 2AB1 2-cylinder diesel serial #847229 1184 cc displacement and about 24 hp - this engine was probably built in the late 70's or maybe first few years of the '80s. I think I can get parts for it at dieselamericas. - The loader itself has no wheel fenders and the vertical pieces that support the loader arms are massive solid steel plates (which I think is uncommon). The controls are two t-handles between the operators knees. I think the left one is f/r/steering and the right is lift/dump. - It's painted white with red wheels. My dad told me these are David Brown colors and that this might have led to the confusion that it was a Case machine - but I've found no references that David Brown every manufactured a skid steer. - there are three safty decals intact, they all start with 9100- serial number - the machine is 59' wide and 69' long and 7' to the top of the roll cage. I'm stumped - thanks for any suggestions. |
ken davis | The nice people at Gehl have suggested this machine was built by Hydra-Mac International of Theif River MN. Hydra-Mac has since gone out of business, but there's a rumor that International acquired excess inventory - I'm tracking that lead down now. |
Gerald Krahn | Hydra-Mac made some skid steer loaders for Case IH in the late 70's early 80's. The Hydyr-Mac had a radiator that was hinged so you could turn it and blow out from the back side. I think this was the only manufacture that had that feature. |
Ken Davis | The radiator in mine is in the engine compartment door and does blow out the back, but the radiator itself is not hinged. I was able to collect more information from the Hydra-mac people in MN though. The Hydra-Mac number for this machine was probably a 9C series 3 or 11C. Hydra-Mac made some for International Industrial who painted them International Yellow and sold them designated as a 4136. I did find the two rivets where the serial number tag is supposed to be, on the left front roll bar mounting point, right where they Hydra-Mac people said it would be. Sadly Hydra-mac is in some kind of legal limbo and doesn't seem to really exist any more. The 'Hydra-mac' people I refer to are/were a subsidy or a subcontractor for the original Hydra-mac - even if they don't have full access to parts and information they have good memories and answer your questions. I called the International people who told me everything about these machines has been lost due to reorgs, mergers and buy-outs of the 'industrial' line (International Harvestor - IH - Dresser - Komatsu) so I think that's a dead-end. If you ask and beg enough the Isuzu people will admit they made the 2ab1 engine (1184cc) and have let me order a service manual for it (still waiting). I'm gonna get this thing running again... one way or another. |
albert beadle | I'm having a little trouble as well I purchased a hydra-mac 14c and could only get an operaters manual from international. parts and service manual not in stock do to legality reasons from bankrupcy. going to try contacting dealership that services my machine and see if they will make a copy of service manual for me. as long as not on fish-disk should get one. |

Louie | I know a dealer,'George Plass Sales' in Bird Island, Minnesota, that I beleive sold the most HydraMacs'in this state, they have a mechanic by the name of Dan who can almost tell you where any screw, gear, or whatever is on those machines, he is trying to find a part for me at this time from someone at Theif River Falls.Their Number is 320- 365-4701, ask for Dan. HydraMac made IH 4140&4150 and also Gehl around 1979-1980. Isuzu Deisel & Crysler gas engines are the norm these years. |

Jerry | I have an IH 3200 Series A and am having a problem with lifting and tilting the bucket. I've check the hydraulic fluid and its full, I don't see any leaks. It seems there is not enough power to life or tilt the front bucket. Does anyone have any idea what else could be the problem. I have no idea how old is the machine - it's at least 10 or 15 yrs old. Thanks |
Kim | For help with Hydra Macs, you can contact John Bugge. He purchased all the spare parts and prints. His number is 218-964-5900. |
Bob Gatz | All of a sudden all hydraulic power went out on my skidsteer, can't turn, move, or lift bucket. Heard a grinding noise briefly, then the motor reved up a little, (no load on engine I am assuming) any body got any Ideas? I am thinking the main pump connection that is attached to the engine went out. I don't see any leaks, is there a main suction hose? Thank you Bob |
